One of my many careers is being a Stylist. Contrary to the popular belief styling is a lot more than just playing dress up in designer clothes. Stylists are involved in almost everything from fashion magazines and billboards to still life in home interior ads.
"For every picture you see know that there is a stylist somewhere working." - Misa Hylton
This week CBC had the pleasure of attending Misa Hylton's Fashion Academy Sky's The Limit Experience. Known for her work in the 90's with Missy Elliott, Lil Kim, and Puff Daddy, Misa and her team of Alumni's, who are currently working stylists, hosted an informative event about what it takes to become a stylist. Misa is the founder of the Misa Hylton Fashion Academy here in New York where she gives hands on training on everything about the the styling world. How to draft an invoice, what to charge, how to accurately estimate a budget for a shoot are just some of the things Misa touches on during her classes at the Fashion Academy. Ty Hunter (Beyoncé's stylist) and Wouvrice (Alicia Keys's stylist) were also in attendance sharing their stories and advice for aspiring stylists. The evening ended with a gift bag filled with freebies from all of the sponsors for the event.
