Sneaker Politics

Are we still trying to keep up with the Jones's? Collaborations such as Balmain & Alexander Wang for H&M, En Noir for Gap, and 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target has made it affordable for us to own some of the designers worn by our favorite celebrities. Who would've thought that high end designers are inspired by popular (more affordable) sportswear brands? Lately Alexander McQueen, Celine, and Louis Vuitton have released sneakers with silhouettes similar to both Nike and Adidias concepts. Don't believe me? Just watch.

New Year, New You, New Sports Bra?

Getting back in the gym is the go to New Years Resolution for just about everybody that over ate during the holidays. But believe it or not more women are starting to get just as serious about the gym as men. Whether you're a newbie or a vet, knowing what sports bra suits you best is a must! Let's go over the basics.

1. Sizing: By default the belief is you have to go down a size for the most support. Not quite. Brands such as Moving Comfort, Nike, and Victoria Secret offer sports bra by the cup size.

2. Support: The lowest impact sports bra can be found any where from $5 & below at Walmart, but that doesn't mean that's what's best for you. The bigger your cup size the more support you need. Easy indicator: if the girls don't stay put when you're on the treadmill, you need more support.

3. Wear and Tear: Like most, if not all work out wear, sports bras have that sweat-wicking/ Dri fit technology in them. Unfortunately thanks to sweat and bacteria that technology does not last forever. The more you frequent the gym the sooner you need to swap out bras. The typical sports bra is good for 3-6 months.

Get out there! Here's some reasonably priced sports bras for all support levels.

Low/Light Support
$12.90 @ Forever 21

Vanity Fair Women's Crossback $17 @ Sears

Medium Support
2 for $50 @ Victoria Secret ($32.50 Regular Price

$10 - $25 @ Aeropostale

High Support
Moving Comfort Juno $42-70 @ rei.com

Nike Pro Rival $50-70 @ Nike.com

Misa Hylton: Sky's The Limit Experience

Happy New Year!!! I know, I know it's been a while but the start of a new year is the perfect time to rebrand and refocus; not only in your personal life but in your career as well.

One of my many careers is being a Stylist. Contrary to the popular belief styling is a lot more than just playing dress up in designer clothes. Stylists are involved in almost everything from fashion magazines and billboards to still life in home interior ads.

"For every picture you see know that there is a stylist somewhere working." - Misa Hylton

This week CBC had the pleasure of attending Misa Hylton's Fashion Academy Sky's The Limit Experience. Known for her work in the 90's with Missy Elliott, Lil Kim, and Puff Daddy, Misa and her team of Alumni's, who are currently working stylists, hosted an informative event about what it takes to become a stylist. Misa is the founder of the Misa Hylton Fashion Academy here in New York where she gives hands on training on everything about the the styling world. How to draft an invoice, what to charge, how to accurately estimate a budget for a shoot are just some of the things Misa touches on during her classes at the Fashion Academy. Ty Hunter (Beyoncé's stylist) and Wouvrice (Alicia Keys's stylist) were also in attendance sharing their stories and advice for aspiring stylists. The evening ended with a gift bag filled with freebies from all of the sponsors for the event.

Check out MisaHyltonFashionAcademy.com for more information about the school and Misa's 20+ years styling career.
